Outpatient Palliative Care Service

The UCSF Outpatient Palliative Care Service is dedicated to improving quality of life for patients with serious illnesses other than cancer. These include heart failure, chronic lung disease, kidney disease, liver failure and neurological conditions. Patients with cancer can receive palliative care through the UCSF Cancer Symptom Management Service.

As palliative care specialists, our goal is to ease or eliminate your symptoms, ensure that your medical care wishes are known and honored, and help both you and your caregivers cope. Palliative care can be helpful at any stage of a serious illness, not just end-of-life, and may take place alongside treatments to improve or cure your condition.

We take a comprehensive, whole-person approach. Based on your needs, you may see a doctor, nurse, social worker or chaplain as part of your palliative care. We also partner closely with other medical providers to help you feel more comfortable and supported.

We offer appointments in the clinic, by video and through home visits.
